Get ready for AI calling in India

By the Intend team at Kaigen Labs. Updated .

You’ve decided to let AI call your property enquiries back. Before the first call goes out, India’s telecom rules ask for some paperwork, and most of it has to come from your side, because the registration is in your company’s name.

It sounds heavier than it is. Here is the whole list, in order, with what we do for you at each step.

In short, gather your company documents, register on Tata’s DLT portal as the sender, approve the calling number and template we set up, and send us five details. The work takes an afternoon. Approvals usually take one to two weeks from the day your documents are ready.

Four steps to AI calling in India. One: gather your documents. Two: register on Tata DLT; Tata usually emails your PE ID in about one working day. Three: approve your calling number and the call template; the operator switches the number on, usually within a few working days. Four: send us the details. From the day your documents are ready it usually takes one to two weeks.
The four steps below, with the waits Tata and the operator usually take.

Before Intend's AI agent can call your customers, India's telecom rules ask that your company is registered as the sender and that the number it calls from is approved for business calls. This guide shows what to prepare, what to do, and what to send back to us. The work takes an afternoon; approvals take a few working days.

What you do

  • Gather six documents
  • Register your company on Tata DLT
  • Approve your calling number there
  • Send us five details

What Intend does

  • Drafts your authorisation letter
  • Orders your 140-series number
  • Adds the call template on DLT
  • Switches the agent on for calls

Why this is needed

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) requires every business that makes sales or marketing calls to be registered on a DLT platform, a shared register run by the telecom operators. A September 2026 amendment adds that calls made by an AI or a recorded voice must come from numbers declared to the operator in advance. We set that up in step 3.

Our calling partner uses Tata Teleservices' DLT platform, so the registration needs to be on Tata's portal. If your company already registered on another operator's DLT for SMS, tell us before you start and we will check what can be reused.

You do not need any of this for customers calling you, or for WhatsApp. It is only for calls the AI agent places.

1

Gather your documents

Scans or clear photos are fine, as PDF or JPG under 2 MB each. The company name and address should match across all of them.

Company PAN cardThe company's PAN, not a director's.
Certificate of IncorporationOr the partnership deed or LLP agreement, for those company types.
GST registration certificateThe current certificate.
Registered office address proofA recent utility bill, or the address page of the GST certificate.
Proof of businessA trade licence, RERA registration, or a recent invoice in the company's name.
Website or trademarkYour website address is usually enough. It supports your sender name.
Authorisation letterOn company letterhead, signed and stamped by a director, naming the person who manages the DLT account. Intend can draft it for you.
Authorised personTheir Aadhaar or passport, and a mobile number and work email that can receive codes.
2

Register on Tata DLT

Someone at your company does this, because the account is yours and it sends one-time codes to the authorised person. We are happy to stay on a call and guide you.

  1. Open the Tata DLT portal at telemarketer.tatateleservices.com and choose Enterprise (sometimes called Principal Entity) sign-up.
  2. Enter the company name exactly as on the PAN card, the company type, and the registered address exactly as on the GST certificate.
  3. Enter the authorised person's name, mobile and email, and confirm both with the codes that arrive.
  4. Choose your business category, for example Real Estate, and upload the documents from step 1.
  5. Pay the one-time registration fee shown on the portal, usually about ₹6,000 including GST, and submit.
  6. Tata reviews it in about one working day and emails your Principal Entity ID (PE ID), a long number, usually 19 digits. Everything else hangs off it.
  7. Register a header: a sender name of up to 6 letters for your brand, for example MANAPR. If you already send SMS you may have one.
Already registered? Many businesses joined DLT years ago for SMS, often through an SMS vendor. Ask your marketing or IT team before you start. If you have a PE ID on another operator, send it to us first.
3

Approve your calling number

Your AI agent calls from a number declared in your company's name under your PE ID. Promotional calls must come from a 140-series number, the series India reserves for marketing calls; we confirm with our calling partner whether follow-ups to people who enquired can use your regular number, so one number handles both directions. Intend orders and declares the number for you. Your part is short:

  1. Sign a one-page letter of intent for a 140 number, if one is needed. We send it to you.
  2. When the number appears in your Tata DLT account, approve it there. It takes one click.
  3. Approve the call template we add on DLT: a short description of why we call, for example a follow-up on an enquiry about your project.

The operator then switches the number on, usually within a few working days. Calling people who did not enquire also needs a consent template on DLT; we prepare that wording with you if you plan such calls.

How your customers are protected

These rules are built into every call our agent makes:

Enquiry windowWe call people who enquired with you within 7 days of their enquiry. Older leads need consent recorded on the operators’ consent platform first.
Calling hoursOnly between 10 am and 9 pm.
Do not disturbAnyone who asks us to stop, or is marked do-not-disturb in your CRM, is never called again.
Fair attemptsA small, fixed number of attempts per lead.
Your name on the callThe agent says who it calls from, and calls come from a number declared in your company’s name.
4

Send us the details

Reply to your account contact, or email hello@tryintend.com, with:

  1. Your PE ID, and the DLT portal it is on (Tata, or another operator)
  2. Your approved header, the 6-letter sender name
  3. The signatory's name and email for the 140-number letter of intent
  4. The numbers your team calls from today, so your caller identity stays consistent
  5. The consent wording on your enquiry forms (website, Meta and Google lead forms). A screenshot is fine.

With these we order the number, add the call template and switch your agent on for calls. From the day your documents are ready it usually takes one to two weeks.

Common questions

Can Intend register on DLT for us?

The registration is your company's own account and needs your authorised person's codes and signature, so you submit it. We prepare everything and can guide you through it live.

What does it cost?

The Tata DLT registration is a one-time fee of about ₹6,000 including GST, paid to Tata. The portal shows the exact amount. The 140 number and the calls are part of your plan with us.

How long until the agent can call?

Usually one to two weeks: about a day for the PE ID, then a few working days for the number and template.

What to do today

Ask your marketing or IT team one question: are we already on DLT for SMS? If you are, send us the PE ID first and we’ll check what can be reused. If not, start gathering the documents in step 1. Most are standard company papers, such as the PAN card, the incorporation certificate and the GST certificate.

The rules behind each step are explained in AI calling in India, and the 7-day rule for enquiry calls in TRAI’s 7-day enquiry window.
